I had the pleasure of meeting Gwen (and working with her for the first time), back in 2004 when I ran an ad for "Producer seeking a soulful female vocalist".
Gwen answered my ad, and I invited her to my studio, where she proceeded to sing the Chorus Hook & adlibs for a song I was working on called "The Dancefloor".
She immediately drew me in with her warm personality when she walked through my door, but when she sang, OMG! I was astounded.
Such a perfect tone, phrasing, and SOUL. And so easy & natural to work with.

Needless to say, I invited Gwen to my studio many times in the proceeding years after that initial session. I believe she ended up singing on something like 10 of my productions!

I found out today, that Gwen passed away a few weeks ago from a rare form of lung cancer. I am both shocked and saddened by this.

"Chicago On My Mind" was the very last thing we recorded together, and this was back in 2011.

This song was my tribute to the pioneers of House Music, which as we all know, was born in CHICAGO, USA.

Gwen did not know who the names were who I asked her to recite on the spoken parts of the song: MARSHALL JEFFERSON, FRANKIE KNUCKLES, RON HARDY, FINGERS INC., etc.

She even thought Frankie Knuckles sounded like the name of some mafia thug. (this gave me a real chuckle at the time)

In any case, all proceeds of this song will go straight to The Gwenneveire Mann foundation for cancer research. I hope you can find it in your heart to contribute as much as you can, either through purchasing this song, or by visiting her website.
